What is Physical Wellness?

What is Physical Wellness?

By Lucrezia Mangione

Zip.  Zestyness.  Lively.  Energetic. Vitality.  Vim.  Vigor.

Physical wellness is feeling the physical well-being of a get-up-and-go and a spring-in-your step.  It is enjoying the pleasure of a body that is healthy for you.  It is being ready and able to physically explore what you want to do and are inspired to do.  Physical wellness is experiencing health at whatever level of physical ability you have.  Living the definition of wellness.  Breathing the definition of holistic health.

Physical wellness means taking responsibility for your own health.

  • Your body is unique to you.  Only you can take care of it well.
  • Respect your own body’s uniqueness and needs.
  • Do what needs doing to promote health for your body.
  • Grow new healthy habits that increase health.
  • Experience the richness of your body-mind connection.

Physical wellness is the goal. It’s part of an overall wellness continuum that you are already on.  It’s taking a step towards better health.  A small step:  a step here and a step there along this continuum.  Small steps create big effects.  Physical well-being is the full body experience of vitality that happens as you move into greater states of physical wellness.

Now that you have a better understanding of what physical wellness is, explore and experience more physical well-being.

Take a moment. And shift. Reclaim your calm using this stress relief technique for pain and stress reduction.

Small Steps for Better Health:  A Self-Reflective Exercise

  1. Get out a piece of paper and your favorite writing utensil.
  2. Be honest with your self.  Think about the things you know you need to do for better physical wellness and improved holistic health.
  3. Be open with your self.  Take a few deep breaths and write a list of the things you know you need to do for better physical health.
  4. Take your list and break it down into small, realistic manageable steps.
  5. Look at the list.  You’ve just taken one small step towards better health.
  6. Change begins with becoming aware of what you need support in. Ready for another step?  If so, go to step #7.  If you are not ready, go to step #9.  You’ve done a lot so far.
  7. Pick one item off your list.  Just one – the one you are ready for.  What’s one small step you can take action on?  Small steps create big effects.
  8. Do it.
  9. Pat yourself on the back.  You read through this.  You made a list.  You took another step.  When you’re ready for the next step, pick a new item off your list.  Well done.

Cultivate your physical wellness. Return to what you know you need to do for better health.  Experience your full-body vitality by taking a small step towards a greater state of physical wellness today.
